We here at Best Mutual Funds Now decided to have a look at what the best Vanguard Mutual Funds 2009 are and show their performance so far, since it’s about halfway through the year now. We looked at all Vanguard funds and ranked them by the best Vanguard funds 2009.

Capital Opportunity (aggressive stock) 18.38% year-to-date (YTD) return.
Convertible Securities (balanced) 17.32% YTD
Energy (stock-sector) 14.18% YTD
International Growth (international) 14.18% YTD
Those are strong returns. Of those, the best in lifetime gains are the Energy and International Growth funds, which both started in the 1980s. Energy has a lifetime return of 13.09% and International Growth a return of 10.72% lifetime.

Short-Term Investment-Grade (bond-taxable) 8.09% YTD
Intermediate-Term Investment-Grade (bond-taxable) 7.74% YTD
Inflation-Protected Securities (bond-taxable) 4.73% YTD
All three of these have better than 5.5% gains over their lifetimes, the newest (the last one) being started in 2000.
