Paying for your transactions is simple. The transactions involve a sweep which is a link between your Vanguard Money Market Account and your Brokerage Account. There must be sufficient funds in your accounts to cover the purchase price plus the commission fees by 4pm EST of each business day to prevent a rejection of your order. Most equity trades are posted as net credits or net debit until the transaction is completed. This generally takes three business days.
When your investments pays out a dividend, your brokerage account is automatically credited with the appropriate amount. The next business day that money will be transferred to your Money Market Account. If you have a security in your name, the funds will be sent directly to you.
The fees associated with the different Vanguard funds and services vary. The standard account service fee is $30 per account. When buying or selling stocks and ETF’s the standard fee for online is the greater of $25 or $0.025 per share. The AutoBroker is the greater of $40 or $0.05. The Associate Assisted transaction is the greater between $45 of $0.05 per share.
If a stock is priced lower than $1.00 then there is a $20 fee plus a 2% of the principal when made online.
